Site redesign!

Ok, you may have seen my last post about blogKomm, but I got annoyed while setting it up. Very annoyed. The result of that is that I will be rolling my own blog in Django. And of course after looking at Django some more, I decided to redo my whole site using it for ease of use (and so I don't have to have the ugly /django/ urls so fcgi will play nice with lighttpd.

Switching to blogKomm for comments

Seeing that pollxn really is quite simple and I would like something a little more robust, I went on the hunt again and came out with blogKomm which seems to be what I want. I'm not really sure why I didn't choose this one before? It has *everything* I could need! Installation is straightforward and probably doesn't even need to be documented as in the case of pollxn. About the only thing I think that needs to be done is adding the comments link in the entry templates.

Friday Open Source Summary (get it?)

Now that the week of May 23 is over, it's time for a brief status update on my Summer of Code project. What I had planned to do this week was:
May 24 - Start of coding, get up to speed with using python-ogre
Overall, I feel this was accomplished. I spent the week browsing through jmtan's 3D client code, banging my head against quaternions, and finding (and reading!) some good Ogre3d documentation (such as the manual and API, both of which would be nice to have bound ... somehow.)

Also this week I had some adventures trying to get python-ogre set up on my netbook. It seems that I might end up having to recompile python-ogre (nightmares!) on my netbook if I want to test the battleviewer on it.

Next week?
May 31 - Work on constructing a battle scene
That was the plan, but it seems when I made my timeline I didn't take into account how much work on the battleviewer was already done by jmtan (test_battle.py is quite the innocuous filename!) I may end up moving a few weeks ahead to:
June 14 - Work on getting battle events from BattleXML implemented and create simple 3D models for missiles/similar

The bottom line: I did research on the tools and code I would be using and am ready to go as soon as I move back to Manhattan on the first of June.

Summer of {Code,Exercise}

Today is the start of Summer of Code again (ok, so it was really the 23rd, but who's counting?) As well as coding this summer, I've set a goal to get some exercise done, so I'm going to be doing the Hundred Pushups, Two Hundred Situps, and Two Hundred Squats challenges along with about a half dozen others from the #gsoc channel. To help us keep on track I pulled an almost-allnighter Sunday night and came up with this little dandy to keep track of our pushups, situps, and squats. Feel free to use it and shoot me an email if you like it or would like improvements!

Pysg hits 0.0.5! And gets a website.

My IRC log parser (pysg) has hit version 0.0.5! Of course... this is the first very arbitrary version number. The plan for now is 0.0.x increments for minor features, 0.x.0 increments for larger features, and x.0.0 increments for acts of God. If you want to help with the project, please contact me or add issues to the tracker or even send in patches!

In other news, pysg.org has been registered for the project and will later offer hosting for IRC channels for a very small fee, which will hopefully be enough to cover VPS costs.
